Kayadhu Gram Vikas Pratishthan, Nanded

Kayadhu Rural Development Organization was started and registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) on 24th April 1984. The trust was established by a group of individuals who were committed to rendering dedicated service to society in rural areas of Hingoli, Parbhani, and Nanded districts, while maintaining their professional work and responsibilities. The aim of this trust was to work in backward, undeveloped tribal areas in a secular spirit across economic, educational, social, and cultural fronts. The organization focuses on training women and youth to make them self-reliant, as well as ensuring reasonable health services in rural and tribal areas.

The rural population is the central focus of the organization’s activities, with a particular emphasis on the large tribal populations. Sonwadi, a 100% tribal village, was selected as one of the initial villages for its work. Despite lacking basic amenities like electricity and water supply, the village did not even have a proper road. A 3 km road was constructed from Rajdari to Sonwadi through spontaneous shramadan (voluntary labor) by the villagers themselves, under the guidance of the trust.

  • Electricity and Water Supply: Successfully brought electricity to Sonwadi after repeated persuasion with M.S.E.B. Water supply was provided through the Food for Work scheme of Oxfam.
  • Drought Prone Area Development Program (DPAP): Implemented the program from 1996 to 2006, with a fund of about 30 lakhs per village.
  • Watershed Development Project: Conducted a Ridge to Valley survey and built recharge structures, cement nala bunds, earthen dams, and more. As a result, the water table improved, solving the drinking water problem. Jamgaon Tanda became the first tanker-free village in Hingoli District.
  • Link Worker Scheme (LWS): Implemented in 200 villages, this initiative focused on identifying and providing medical treatment to HIV-positive cases, along with separate counseling programs for male and female patients, ensuring they received regular treatment and led normal lives.
  • Jal Swarajya Scheme: Completed between Roil and Rook, this project focused on ensuring the availability and use of clean water in villages.
  • Health Services: The organization conducted free monthly health check-up camps and provided free medicine to that in need.
  • Maharashtra Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme: The organization submitted a project proposal under this scheme, including a Ridge to Valley survey and economic estimates to concerned government agencies.
